Took the bait from Home Depot with their 4th of July sale. 2 Ryobi 2200 watt inverter generators with parallel cable for $1100 including shipping. Yippee, so happy!

Not for long

Received the first generator yesterday. Box was damaged. Took pictures then opened. Found that the plastic engine cover and the plastic case where the cover mounts to were both broken. I called my local HD store only to find out that I cannot take it there to switch out. I must call the 800 number and send it in and wait for a replacement.

Called the 800 number and the guy was super nice. He told me that he could send replacement parts. :) So we look at the replacement parts list only to find the the plastic case is not listed. :(

Next he tells me that I can send it back, oh but wait...they are out of stock on the package I purchased. They can only take it back as a package, not the single unit even though they shipped it all by itself. Separate UPS numbers and everything. :face

In the end he filed for some claim to see if Ryobi will send me the parts. He described the parts since the case didn't have a part number. Who knows how this will turn out. All could be avoided if they would let me take it to the local HD store and swap it for a unit that isn't broken.

There was also oily residue on the outside of the generator. Not certain if they ran it at the factory to test it, then drained the fluids. Maybe UPS flipped it upsidedown during shipping and there was a little oil left in it. The inside of the cardboard box has some oil in it as well.

Disappointed for you Bobby. Wonder if the second one will be in better condition ? Have they got one on display at Home Depot. I feel a visit coming on with a appropriately hidden tool kit :-)

Sadly, I probably would. However they may notice when I pull the entire body off of it! :rolling I bet I would go unnoticed if I snuck one of those orange vests they all wear. Do it right out in the open then.

That sucks.

I'd have a Tendency to take it up there and see if they will help you. Lot more likely to get it done in person than over the phone

I felt the same way which is why I called my local store. The lady said if I wanted to bring it up there she could help me file the claim online. :?

Several Houston stores stock the generator. Try calling one of them to see if they'll do an exchange.

That's an idea, if you just take it in and ask for an exchange they don't normally ask to many questions.

don't tell them it was part of a package...

To add to my lovely experience. UPS does it again. The following day the other generator arrived by my front door. The driver didn't even bother putting the correct side up. Part of the box was torn off and laying on the ground. The two pieces of strapping were both broken. These guys better be so glad they don't work for me. Luckily the only thing busted was the packing. The generator seems to be okay.

The next day we had a bad storm and the power went out. I cranked up the generators and they both worked well. Very pleased.

Yesterday I moved the generators and noticed a little oil under one of them. Yep, same one that the plastic was broken. No telling where the oil is coming from. I'll check that out tonight. :face

Thanks bud, me too. The instructions said to pour the entire bottle of oil in. Did that with the first generator and checked level, it was perfect. I began doing that with the damaged generator and began noticing oil coming out when the bottle was almost empty. At that time I remembered that there was oil residue in the box it was shipped in. I'm thinking that Ryobi forgot to drain the oil prior to shipping. I never thought to check the level. That is what I plan to check first just to see. Maybe I overfilled it because it was already full? Jeez.
