The Mamba 60E is balanced as of right now but we will see where we need to go once it is flying.

I marked on the bottom wings with masking tape of where the CG should be with the middle of the tape being 70mm.

Since I was close to where I wanted it, I went ahead and marked my batteries and added the velcro to the bottom. I also wrapped the ESC wires in some spiral wrap to keep them from being rubbed by the wood and causing problems down the road. The connections for the upper wing aileron servos were also secured to the cabane struts using some zip ties.

After that I disassembled the plane and put it in a corner. It will be after the first of the year before I can fly it so I'm going to have it taking up less space in the mean time.

I also tried to get my VVRC 35 mounted on the Raven but man some of the tapping on the standoffs was bad. One wasn't even tapped!

In trying to get the engine mounted temporarily, I found a couple of things. The first is that it is going to be far easier to get the standoffs on and then mount the engine. The second is that I need some more 5mm washers. You can kind of see it in the picture, but I run out of threading before the bolt is completely in the standoff. I cut threading down as far as I can and I may try to put the standoffs in my drillpress and see if I can make the hole a little deeper.

I was successful at removing more material from the inside of the standoff today but my tap doesn't seem to be cutting far down enough. I'm thinking washers will be sufficient for solving my issue.

Well I'm glad I didn't do much more work on the standoffs because I discovered today that they are too long. I had the thought over the break that I needed to confirm I didn't need a small spacer to more the engine further away. I discovered that the back of the spinner plate was 169mm instead of the suggested 160-161mm. I measure the included standoffs at 72mm so I ordered some 60mm ones and I'll cut some ~3-4mm lite ply to go between the standoffs and the firewall. I looked around and various vendors seem to be selling the same product so I found a decently priced set from an eBay seller with good reviews.

I got a little work done on the Raven last night but my employer was able to alter their IT allowances again so pics will have to wait until I can get on my wife's MacBook when I get home.

Ok, I cut out some spacers for the standoffs. I'll need to sand one side on 2 of them to interfere less with the balsa tri-stock on the firewall reinforcement.

After drilling out the standoffs and cutting the thread deeper with a tap, I was finally able to get them to sit flush against the spacers.

I just have 2 more to do now.
