Interesting, all good points Steve.

Lets hope the pilot can shed some light on it, i hope for his sake it was mechanical.

I cant imagine living with that if it was simply human error

they think the Hunter suffered a flameout near the top of the loop.

there is a strange flash at 56 seconds in this video...

Cheers

I hate to disagree with the experts, but that strange flash looked more like a bug flying in front of the camera than anything coming from the aircraft. There was also no interruption in sound from the engine, and a flameout most certainly would have caused a "whoof" and reduction in engine noise. Even in their frame grab it's pretty obvious that is not coming from the aircraft:

I agree Chris I have looked at all the other footage and there is no puff of smoke evident in any of them, even though it only lasts a couple of frames I would have expected the exhaust note to change to correspond with a flame out.

I would have also expected to see some smoke of some kind?

I have seen in other videos where the loop doesn't look so round..
it looks really nice on the entry, on the way up and over the top and then on the way back down its doesn't remain round or constant it seems to open out as he heads towards the ground and then he starts to pull back to complete the loop. Obviously though he had lost far too much altitude and tried to exit too close to the ground.
I wonder if the pilot blacked out for a second, or the controls froze or something but the loop doesn't look as constant as it should.

I wonder if we will ever know?

He was doing a clover leaf loop where you exit 90 degrees from the entry you can see it in videos from other airshows he did with it.
