That is so darn sweet! Can't wait to see how the flight testing goes (and sounds!)

Hey all... Time for an update.

Got a little shop time tonite and listened to the latest podcast. Thank you Chris and Bobby for the kind words. Good to have you both back and your words on the show about this project are encouraging.

A little head scratching went on as to how to mount all this into an airplane easily. After a few more hairs fell out I came up with this plan. The servo and pitch arm will mount to the back of a new (slightly bigger) x mount. The whole power system will become one unit with a mounting point mid ship. The servo and mechanism will pass through a 2" hole in the firewall and the x mount will fasten to 4 mounting points just outside this opening. This should make attachment and maintenance easy as it comes out as a single unit and all the mechanism is in your hand.

Got around to getting the spinner cut out for the blade grips. 2 1/2" spinner fits over the hub. Image

Just have to build the new x mount now and it should be on the nose of a plane.

Chris.

Thanks Ben. Not my best work as I'm in a bit of a rush to get this in the air now after the promising testing.

Bit of play time tonite produced a mount and tied it all together. Here is a pic of the completed unit and the new x mountImageImage

The whole unit slides through a 2" hole(with a small key way for clearance ) in the firewall and will be fastened with 4 bolts with blind nuts. Image

And it fits!!!!!Image

Weight and balance is good and it looks awesome with that huge blade up front. ImageImage

One mod to do. Not much prop ground clearance. Longer gear on the way. Image

Stay tuned. This might get exciting!!!!!

Chris

Very cool project. I flew SF340s for the start of my career and beta mode is the coolest thing about that plane. I could see putting this on a air show type plane and recreating the turbo raven. Take advantage of the constant speed and get it to haul. There is a video of the full scale turbo raven doing it's routine and another of its crash on YouTube somewhere.
