So the foam airplanes would possibly be straighter, electric powered and possibly more power. The downside is the weight would be too light in the wind? Which wood would be better for I take it?

Yeah, the wood ones really depend on the manufacturer. It's just easier to make them straight when you have a mold.

It might be too light in the wind, but you would have to fly it and see. One thing to try is making a small weight or buying slightly heavier batteries to add some weight to the plane for windier conditions. I would fly it normal before looking into a gyro or added weight for windier conditions first. Pattern planes typically handle the wind really well.

They can be crunchy lol.

Foam is more forgiving and better for a beginner but it also depends on your skills and conditions. If you envision a lot of light crashes, go foam. If you see yourself just bumping the wing lightly every 20 landings, the balsa will hold up fine and you just need to check the covering and structure after the less than perfect landings.

Hi “Kaolith” for the second plane, I recommend you go for the Hubsan H301S Spy Hawk RC Plane RTF With FPV & GPS from http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/rc-planes/gli ... v-gps.html at fair price of £349.99/- This advanced model is the first mass market RC plane to feature an advanced GPS module that allows true auto pilot and automatic return to home!
