Tried to test SL by briefly switching it on. Heli instantly rotated 90 deg left. I couldn't recover ( "Beginner" mode?) before it piled in.

Did I do something wrong or is it a bad iKon?

Ouch that stinks. The self level shouldn't change yaw so that's really weird. Did you try self level on the ground to see what the swash does?

I spooled up in SL and it pulled the heli to the left so I had to switch out.

More than likely something wrong. Could be a bad iKon, but everyone that has told me they had issues I was able to fix by going back through the steps. We helped several at IRCHA as well.

SL has zero control over yaw. It only uses cyclic to move the heli to where it feels is level.

#1) Level the disk, I normally do this by placing a level on top of the motor unless I have my Soko handy.

#2) Press "Set Level" in the Basic Wizard

#3) Be certain to check the box for Self Level on the flight mode you wish

#4) Test without spooling up by moving the heli and cyclic, then entering SL mode and watch the iKon level the swash. If it doesn't...go back through the steps.

#5) Test fly

One of the things that has always stuck with me for self level is to set it on the ground. Bobby showed us when he first got his and makes me a bit skittish when I do it.

If you were on the ground and it was not quite level the ikon maybe trying to level the heli with more and more cyclic which would cause it to flip once head speed was high enough. I've only ever used it to bail via a spring switch. Only tried to fly once with it on as a test and it does fight a bit as I hadn't got level quite right

Jody over at Heli Direct said sudden left rotation in normally an indication of vibration in the gyro. He looked at my wiring and said the Flexo PET was wrapped too close to the ikon sending vibration into the unit. I trimmed it back 3 inches and left the wires loose. Now it doesn't try to commit suicide when i flip to self level.
