Well I bit the bullet and went for the RAIL 516 main blades.

I also ordered a new Boto-Sizer to size my ball links and then some other spare parts to get up to $100 to get a discount.

I have a business trip today and tomorrow and I am headed to my parents house for the weekend. I am feeling better and I might have to take the 516 or something with me to work on...

I really liked the Rail blades on the Protos Max. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

They were my favorite blades on the 600N when I had it. I need to get some 426s for the PROTOS 500 too.

Well I took the 516 kit and some tools with me to my parents house. I ended up spending some time with my parents and watching my son so I didn't get too much done but I did get started. I'm done with the first 6 pages of the manual. I also neglected to take some CA with me so when we got home tonight, I ran back and CA'd the bolts for the battery tray as per the manual.

I am hoping to fly in a pattern contest this weekend despite not flying since the pattern clinic some weeks ago. So I need to spend some time making sure my elevators match and then checking my rates. I am planning on heading down to Katy, TX on Friday to practice and if I need to do some tuning, it won't be much. I just hope I don't come in last place...

I had hoped to do more with the 516 but life got in the way. I needed to start mowing my lawn (will finish tonight) and by the time I put my son to bed and took care of a few other things, it was already close to 10 PM. So I just put the main bearing blocks, boom block, and gyro tray on one of the frame sides. I did use loctite and I will see how things turn out when I do the other side. I may have to remove the bolts and redo the loctite if something is off.

I'm also considering not going to the pattern contest this weekend due to weather but we will see.

I also am thinking about getting a truck cap/camper shell for my truck to avoid renting a trailer or building one and having to store it in the garage for transporting my pattern plane to contests. They are pretty expensive though and a trailer would be cheaper plus I could take both my pattern plane and my EF Edge to the field with a trailer.

Second frame side is on and everything was at 90 degrees. I don't recall ever building a heli that wasn't square but I like to check just in case. I also got the ESC tray on.

I was able to get a little more done with the 516 last night. I got the landing gear blocks mounted and the struts and skid tubes on. I forgot to take a pic of the struts and skid tubes but those are pretty standard. I need to sand down the plugs for the skid tubes to get them in.

I also worked on the belt tensioner but I seem to be missing a shim. I disassembled over my build mat and I'm not seeing it. I also searched the floor just in case but I'm not finding anything. I emailed Matt to see what he says as this could be a part easily left out at the factory.

I also had to head to Waco yesterday and got to see a replica of the DeLorean from Back to the Future at a gas station.

I didn't have much time to work on the 516 last night. I spent the first 5 minutes scouring the floor of my shop in case the missing shim was on the floor and I thought I had found it but it turned out to be a small lock washer. After that I decided it really is missing and so I put the reassembled belt tensioner aside and started working on the next parts which were the main gear and auto hub. I only got the loctite for the bushings in to the auto hub assembly and loctite the auto hub to the main gear. I used red for the bushings and I did this by spreading a thin layer on the outside edge of the bushing, laying what would be the inside to the auto hub on a paper towel, installing in the auto hub, and then wiping what little excess loctite was on the outside. Since you don't need much to hold it in place, I wanted to avoid getting any red loctite in to the bearings.

I also ordered tail blades for the 516 and some shims along with a set of RAIL 426 blades for the PROTOS from Only Fine Helis last night.
